adding novelty yarns to your nest

woolly nest & eggs pattern

This by far is one of my most favorite patterns, Woolly Nest & Eggs. I love the textures and colors, and the whole idea of creating a nest in the first place. I get a lot of requests for what yarns (novelty yarns) and materials (raffia, hemp, ribbon) I used in my nest, shown above, and the order in which I add each of them. So, I thought I would share all that with you.

Materials:

Nest:
1 skein Lamb's Pride worsted weight yarn, #07 Sable
1 skein Nature Spun sport weight yarn, #701 Stone
1 skein Crystal Palace Yarns Squiggle, #9292 Mink Mix
1 skein Crystal Palace Yarns Fizz, #9152 Wood Grain
1 roll of hemp cord (or something similar like string)
several strands of brown kraft-color raffia, found in craft stores

NOTE:  These yarns are knit together to create the soft shades of the nest. The Lamb's Pride gives the nest a bit of a hairy/fuzzy-look.

Eggs:
1 skein Nature Spun sport weight yarn, #115 Bit of Blue

NOTE:  This is the closest color I have found that resembles a nice robin's egg blue without having to dye it yourself with Kool-Aid. The pattern gives instructions on how to dye yarn to achieve that robin's egg blue color if you are interested.
