woolly nest & eggs pattern |
This by far is one of my most favorite patterns, Woolly Nest & Eggs. I love the textures and colors, and the whole idea of creating a nest in the first place. I get a lot of requests for what yarns (novelty yarns) and materials (raffia, hemp, ribbon) I used in my nest, shown above, and the order in which I add each of them. So, I thought I would share all that with you.
Materials:
Nest:
1 skein Lamb's Pride worsted weight yarn, #07 Sable
1 skein Nature Spun sport weight yarn, #701 Stone
1 skein Crystal Palace Yarns Squiggle, #9292 Mink Mix
1 skein Crystal Palace Yarns Fizz, #9152 Wood Grain
1 roll of hemp cord (or something similar like string)
several strands of brown kraft-color raffia, found in craft stores
NOTE: These yarns are knit together to create the soft shades of the nest. The Lamb's Pride gives the nest a bit of a hairy/fuzzy-look.
Eggs:
1 skein Nature Spun sport weight yarn, #115 Bit of Blue
NOTE: This is the closest color I have found that resembles a nice robin's egg blue without having to dye it yourself with Kool-Aid. The pattern gives instructions on how to dye yarn to achieve that robin's egg blue color if you are interested.
Knitting instructions for the sequence of adding in novelty yarns to your woolly nest. Carry the 'nest' yarns together as per pattern instruction up to Round 5.
Round 5: Add a strand of Squiggle along with the 'nest' yarns, knit one round, break novelty yarn.
Round 7: Add in hemp cord along with 'nest' yarns, knit 1 rnd, break hemp.
